Leon Vitali’s career was on the upswing until he met Stanley Kubrick. A handsome young Brit, Vitali had starred in television series and Royal Shakespeare Company plays, but when he met Kubrick on the set of Barry Lyndon in 1975, he was spellbound. Drawn to Kubrick like a moth to a flame, he gave up everything, dedicating his all to a thrilling, crazy roller-coaster-ride of a job: to work beside the director he saw as an unrivaled genius.
Vitali was involved in all of Kubrick’s great projects (A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket). He knew everything and had his hand in everything. His stories are funny, surprising, frightening, chilling and above all extremely addicting, as was his life when he held his self-chosen job title: “Filmworker”.
