At the start of every phone call, Fadil says: “I am your interpreter. I am impartial and will not interfere with this conversation.” An Iraqi refugee sits in his house in the Netherlands and remotely serves as a bridge between asylum seekers and the authorities, doctors and even therapists. His deep emotional involvement is something he has to keep to himself.
