Ireland 2017, 85 min, English, Hebrew subtitles
Thomas Reid doesn’t look like a mythical hero, but when the giants come, he charges into battle without a moment’s pause. Reid, a farmer living alone in his ancestral home, is being forced to sell his land to allow his neighbor—silicon mega-corporation Intel—to expand its operations. Excited at the possibility of turning the area into a hi-tech powerhouse, the Irish government and local authorities send their people to manipulate and threaten Reid, but he stands his ground. Surrounded by cows and chickens and fortified in his house—a typical hoarder’s lair—he is locked in a grueling legal struggle for an individual’s right to live life as he chooses. The film switches between Reid’s unworldly daily routine to the courtroom drama, presented in some highly original ways.
