Hearts and Crafts - The People that Make Hermès

France 2011, 46 min, French, Hebrew & English subtitles

The French fashion house Hermès is known for its luxurious products; the people responsible for the excellent finish and sumptuous design are less well known. The Hermès documentary offers the viewer a fascinating look at the punctilious work process of the artisans in the company’s workshops. The saddler, the glass maker, the colorist, the graphic designer, the jeweler, the bag designer and the leather maker all reveal love and commitment to their work. Employment at Hermès is preceded by rigorous entrance exams and a grueling training process. Meticulous cinematography follows the delicate details of the craft, and interviews reveal how each of the artisans fell in love with the craft.
