EAMES: THE ARCHITECT AND THE PAINTER

United States 2011, 83 min, English, Hebrew subtitles

Charles and Ray Eames are primarily known for their design of the “Eames Chair”, a landmark in the history of modern design. For the first time the masses could boast furniture that expressed simplicity, minimalism and sophistication. Behind the furniture was a personal and professional partnership, with phenomenally diverse creative projects: film, multimedia exhibitions, toys and more. Narrated by James Franco and using rare archive material and interviews, the film reviews a career that began after World War II and lasted 40 years. Their friends say: “she was a painter who rarely painted and he was an architect who never got his license”. Together they founded a design studio infusing energy and relentless innovation into American modernism.
