BULLY

United States 2011, 94 min, English, Hebrew subtitles

Bullying is the most prevalent form of violence suffered by minors in the USA. The film of Emmy winner Lee Hirsch puts a human face on statistics and shows why a national movement calls for urgent treatment of the problem. Hirsch presents five stories of children whose lives have been destroyed by bullying. The recurring humiliation endured by Tyler Long and Ty Smalley led to their suicide, but even in milder cases social isolation creates an insufferable situation. Are schools doing enough to eradicate the problem? Such questions are profoundly debated when the children’s parents decide to protest against this daily tragedy which crosses geographic, ethnic and economic borders.
