CORMAN'S WORLD: EXPLOITS OF A HOLLYWOOD REBEL

United States 2011, 86 min, English, Hebrew subtitles

Other than sworn film buffs, most people today don’t know Roger Corman’s work. From 1954 onwards, Corman was a central figure in American independent filmmaking. On one hand, he made many low-budget trash films (Creature from the Haunted Sea) challenging Hollywood conventions, on the other hand, as an independent producer, he gave many of the industry’s greats their first break, including Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. All these and others are interviewed and speak fondly of Corman’s eccentric personality; Nicholson even sheds an involuntary tear. In addition to rare archive footage, the film follows 85 year old Corman on the set of his latest horror movie – “Dinoshark”.
