DREAMS OF A LIFE

Ireland / United Kingdom 2011, 91 min, English, Hebrew subtitles

In 2006 London authorities burst into the apartment of Joyce Vincent because of her accumulated rental debts. Her body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition, lying in front of the television set, which was still on. Three years had passed since her death, yet no one reported her disappearance. Lapsed time made determining cause of death difficult, and the story of this woman in her thirties remains obscure. Locating her acquaintances and employing elegant reconstruction, Carol Morley’s film sets out to discover who Joyce was, what could have caused her death and why no one wondered about her fate. Multiple perspectives, at times contradictory, tell a modern tale of loneliness and alienation in the big city.
