Words of Witness

United States 2012, 68 min, Arabic, Hebrew & English subtitles

Heba (22) lives in Cairo and reports for “Al-Masry Al-Youm” from the streets of the city following the revolution. Her relatively affluent, liberal family is supportive, but her mother is concerned: “I know you are a journalist, but you’re still a girl!” Heba believes the old rules broken during the revolution, must stay broken for the revolution to be realized. She goes to Tahrir Square to hear the voices of the people, updates on social media, and connects with a group of protesters who infiltrate State Security headquarters, believing they clandestinely make protesters “disappear”. Director Mai Iskander follows the professional, family and political challenges Heba is confronted with, and illuminates the current situation in Egypt from a unique perspective.
