On a winter night in Lisbon, a friendship grows between a wild-witted elderly woman and a young man trying to help her ascend an endless set of stairs. As they climb hand-in-hand, they overcome the language barrier and age difference and manage to have a funny and touching conversation.

Born in Fukuoka, Japan. Atsushi earned a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences with a major in anthropology in 2012. After working in Kyrgyzstan in the field of community development through cultural activities, he published Kyrgyz-Japanese Dictionary 1.0 online. Back home, he started working as a freelance videographer, and an assistant producer for a few documentary films. In 2017, he gained his master’s degree in documentary filmmaking within DocNomads, an Erasmus Mundus program coordinated by three different universities in Portugal, Hungary, and Belgium. Together with other international filmmakers, he launched Cinecaravan, a moving cinema project traveling in northern Portugal to screen short documentaries and host filmmaking workshops in the socially or geographically remote communities. He is currently developing new films in Asia and Europe and finalizing films he has directed during DocNomads years, while expanding Cinecaravan in other European countries such as Belgium and Hungary.
