Ruth Beckermann was born in Vienna where she also spent her childhood. She studied journalism and history of art in Vienna, Tel Aviv and New York, and completed her PhD at the University of Vienna. She has since contributed as a journalist to several Austrian and Swiss newspapers and magazines. In 1978 she (co-)founded the distribution company Filmladen. Since 1985, she has been working as a writer and filmmaker. Her film The Dreamed Ones was selected at many international festivals, winning numerous awards. Beckermann’s most recent project, The Waldheim Waltz, has been awarded at the Berlin International Film Festival and will be showcased in the current edition of Docaviv.

Ruth Beckermann’s film—winner of the Original Documentary Award at the Berlinale—sheds some light on that dramatic period, recounting the events and sorting out the 'fake news' from the facts.
