Germany 2020, 110 min, German, Hebrew & English subtitles

The family story of director Janna Ji Wonders begins and ends on the shore of a beautiful lake in Bavaria, in the small café her great grandmother had opened in 1920. Many ghosts haunt this café. Her grandmother had grown up there and then ran it with a firm hand; her mother and aunt had grown up there and then fled to the end of the world, traveled far and wide, performed as musicians, joined a hippie commune and even a harem—only to return to the lake. The director herself grew up there too, and has been trying since childhood to piece together the story of the women in her family, and find her place in it.
Filmed and told with extraordinary tenderness, this is a convoluted, dramatic tale about five generations of women—a tale of love and heartbreak, tight bonds, and hope.
