Father Ian Nichols is about to have groundbreaking surgery: He is set to be one of the first people in the world to receive an experimental bionic eye implant, after nearly 40 years of living in complete darkness, yet maintaining full independence. Now, at 76, the Anglican priest and his devoted (though slightly skeptical) wife are facing a daunting transition, as the innovative scientific advancement brings with it some small hope and very big concerns. Through strikingly beautiful abstract visuals, viewers gain a sense of what Ian’s new eye perceives and are drawn into his contemplations about the potential of human senses, the nature of perception, and the notion that every memory holds an element of imagination.
