Sweden / Israel / Germany 2025, 82 min, English and Swedish, Hebrew & English subtitles

Four Auschwitz survivors and longtime bridge partners: Eva, torn between her comfortable life and her family in Israel; Elisabeth, nurturing a close relationship with her granddaughter; Livia, navigating a love-hate relationship with Germany; and Mimi, always looking for a ticket to a film or a play, “to get away from herself.” They are among the last remaining witnesses to the events that plagued 1940s Europe, and now, current events—namely, Hamas’ October 7th attack and the difficult images coming from Gaza—are bringing back painful memories and highlighting the story of their deep friendship, born out of a shared darkness. This is a beautiful film about the survival of a zest for life. It is about the strength of four elegant and opinionated ladies who love to talk about their past but not wallow in it, and possess a level-headed perspective and a humanistic worldview worthy of our attention.
