Germany 2022, 96 min, German and Turkish, Hebrew & English subtitles

They live and make music in Germany, but the German audience has only recently started showing interest in them. They are the Turkish music underground, a subculture started as a protest movement by Turkish immigrants who came to Germany to work and were disappointed to find it less than welcoming. As years went by and generations changed, Germany’s Turkish music scene evolved too, its new aesthetics, rhythms, and themes fueled by socio-political developments. Touching on racism, discrimination, activism, and wokeness, the film shows the brightest stars to have graced the scene over the years, and the way this music, in all its different forms, strengthened the listeners’ sense of community and belonging.
