“While We Watched”


This year, The Union of Journalists in Israel and the Rachel and Uri Avnery Foundation will present the prestigious Uri Avnery Award for Courageous Journalism at Docaviv Festival.

Presented for the third time, the annual award celebrates journalists who have done groundbreaking work with a significant impact on public discourse. The award winner will receive a NIS 15,000 prize for investigative work in print, electronic, independent, and digital media.

The event will include a screening of While We Watched (2022), a documentary that follows Ravish Kumar, an acclaimed Indian journalist who battles tirelessly for the freedom of the press in his country (catalog page).

After the screening, Journalist Tal Schneider will hold a Q&A session with the filmmaker Vinay Shukla.
