For almost half a century, these two American literary giants have worked together, their arguments spanning everything from ego clashes to punctuation. Now, on the verge of turning 90, they hope to complete one more masterpiece together. The duo are Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert Caro, who dedicated his life to writing the biography of President Lyndon B. Johnson, and Bob Gottlieb, the editor who pored over Caro’s work with a sharpened pencil and an unforgiving eraser. Gottlieb’s daughter, filmmaker Lizzie Gottlieb, tries to uncover the secret to their relationship’s magic through a precise and gentle portrayal of their personas: Caro, the meticulous investigative journalist, determined to decipher the structures of power in society; and her father, the sought-after editor, collector of women’s wallets, and jazz enthusiast. The film is brimming with humor and insight into the captivating power of literature.
