Pacho Velez (The American Sector, Manakamana) explores how people choose their partners out of a catalog. He joins a diverse set of New Yorkers trying to find potential mates on dating apps and websites. He talks to them about their screening techniques, about the sweet times and the sour, about themselves and how they appear in the eyes of other searchers. The people he interviews—searchers of all ages, genders, ethnicities, and sizes—refuse to give up. Velez himself searches too, quietly encouraged by his mother.
