Russia 2022, 68 min, Russian, Hebrew & English subtitles

Just like their peers around the world, Russian teenagers constantly document their lives, but the picture that emerges from these videos, all of them found on social media, is bleak and disturbing, to say the least. Director Angie Vinchito (a pseudonym) gathered dozens of clips filmed by Russian teenagers on their smartphones. Some of them are quite innocuous, with the subjects aware of the camera: a morning routine, a walk to school. Others, filmed without the subjects’ awareness, are shockingly dark, depicting physical and mental abuse that seems commonplace in these schools. As the collage unfolds, we are drawn into a hard-to-digest reality where the routine of violence and cruelty is internalized and later perpetuated by the victims. The film won the IDFA Envision award.
