For 17 years now, they have been gathering at a bar in Buenos Aires to read the same book over and over: “In Search of Lost Time” by Marcel Proust. Sometimes, they think they’re in Paris; other times, they are convinced the story is an excerpt of their lives; and here and there, they shed a tear because the text is so beautiful.
The film follows this unusual book club for four years. Accompanied by curious visitors who hesitantly join the sessions, the devout readers talk, analyze the text, theorize, read, and reread until the fiction seeps into their lives. The memories of the French boy get mixed up with the memories of men and women living halfway across the world almost a century after his time—far away from him, but so very close.
