When a storm approaches, Ivanna goes out into the snow and wind, dragging her little trailer at an angle to keep it from overturning. She knows this harsh weather, the arduous everyday grind of the nomadic people living deep in the Russian Arctic tundra. Ivanna was born here, on the ice flats. For a brief moment, she had dreamed of moving to the city, studying, becoming a dancer, but she got pregnant at 15, and now, at 32, she is raising five children on her own. The film follows Ivanna through four turbulent years: the reindeer she once relied on for her livelihood are gravely threatened by climate change, her meetings with her alcoholic husband are getting increasingly violent, and Ivanna faces some hard choices—but she has no intention of giving up.
